Last night, Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferrell pulled a late night switcheroo. While Reynolds was supposed to appear on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and Ferrell was supposed to show up on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, they decided to shake things up by switching places.
Ferrell arrived dressed in pajamas and explained to the baffled Kimmel that he was “just helpin’ out a buddy,” since Reynolds couldn’t make it. In his place, the actor tried his best to answer the questions Kimmel had prepared for Reynolds. These questions included topics like Reynolds’ upcoming Netflix film Red Notice (which he hadn’t seen), working with Gal Gadot and Dwayne Johnson, wife Blake Lively, and their three daughters’ Halloween costumes.
On The Tonight Show, Fallon was similarly surprised when Reynolds showed up in Ferrell’s place to promote his new Apple TV+ dramedy The Shrink Next Door. Reynolds also showed up in loungewear, telling Fallon he was walking his dog past The Tonight Show studio when he got the call to fill in for his buddy. Like Ferrell, Reynolds could only speculate about the plot of his friend’s new project.
He joked that The Shrink Next Door was an Ant-Man sequel, which would naturally be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s more grounded “Phase 16.” What’s the point of being a celebrity if you can’t pull off fun gags once in a while?!
